About Us

Additional Information

Skjeggmenn Kniver is Norwegian for Beardmen Knives. Made in Hartselle, Alabama with the attention of Scandinavian craftsmanship.

For our knives, the  flat grind is probably the most common grinding method for many different types of knives. It offers a good balance between a strong blade as well as cutting ability. Skjeggmenn Kniver Knives are ground and sharpened so you can easily resharpen in the field. SK Knives come to you already very sharp. They are ground and sharpened at the correct angle so they can easily be touched up with the “Smith’s Two Step Knife Sharpener.” This saves you many headaches, especially those that find knife sharpening a challenge. If you are good at knife sharpening – Great! If not you can make and keep a razor edge with the “Lansky” system. Just carry the “Smith’s” with you in the field for easy touch ups.

Our knives are made to be used not sit on a shelf. The blades come with a beautiful finish that can be maintained with 500 to 1000 grit sandpaper. A light coat of oil or wax will keep that new look.  Take care of your knife and it will last for generation generations. Our blades are made from 1080 or 1095 high carbon steel. These steels, common in knife making,  are not rust proof but surpasses stainless steel in many ways. It is strong, durable and versatile.  It is much easier to sharpen and keep sharp.  High carbon steel has a solid history of dependability throughout hundreds of years. You can own old world artistry, craftsmanship,  ingenuity and skill. Our knives are tempered to solid Rockwell level that gives an edge that is easy to make and maintain.

We offer many different handles. We especially like exotic hardwoods. We love the look, feel and durability. They are easily maintained with an occasional fresh coat of oil or wax. I use Minwax and Tung Oil on handles during production. I will use Minwax or Old English Furniture Oil to maintain their beauty. (Always follow product directions for your handles finish.)

I do not use Micarta in handles, as I prefer old world beauty. However, I do sometimes use copper, brass and other thin metals in my handle liners to add some distinct beauty.

Each Skjeggmenn Kniver Knife is individually hand crafted. I do not make to order and only sell what you see available on my website. We have a variety such as Bushcraft, Skinner's, and Neck Knives, but each is uniquely different. Truly one of a kind. Not Production!

If you are interested in a knife that is available, click the contact me below the offered knife.

Be blessed,

Chip (Skjeggmand)
